Signs of Defective Radiator

• Overheating – When you see the “hot” readout on your temperature panel, head for safe parking and turn off the air conditioner and the engine right away. Put the vehicle on neutral. Slowly rev up the engine. This will decrease the heat and discharge coolant. When steam wafts from your hood, this is a sign that your vehicle is overheating. This is a serious problem which can cause fire if not addressed appropriately. Do not open the hood immediately. Wait for the temperature to go down. Wait for the radiator cap to cool down before you open it. When you force a radiator cap open even when it is still hot, you will release heat and pressure from the radiator. This may result in serious injury and burns.
• Rust and discoloration – When the radiator or the connecting hose leaks, the fluid can dry out as a result of the engine heat. The dried-out fluid can cause rusting and discoloration.
• Coolant leakage – When you notice pink, yellow, or green liquid underneath your vehicle, you know that the coolant is leaking.
