Engine Repair and Service

It is your car’s engine that works the hardest to keep your car running smoothly. Your car will last longer when your engine is regularly taken in for regular maintenance check-ups. This will also help you save on costly repairs. Among the common signs of engine problems that you want to look out for are:

Possible Signs Your Engine Needs Serviced

  • Loud knocking noises – these could be a sign that there is something wrong with your camshafts and bearings or that your hydraulic valve lifters are leaking. The noises are warning signs that tell you to take your car in for an engine inspection.
  • Smoke oozing out from under the hood – when this happens, you have to take note of the color of the smoke. This tells you what could possibly be wrong with your engine. You may see white, black, or blue smoke coming out of your vehicle. Call a professional technician immediately.

Radiator Repair and Service

Your radiator is responsible for cooling the engine. As the engine powers your car, it can overheat and you can have a host of other car problems on your hands. Here are some of the problems you could encounter with your radiator:

    Signs of Defective Radiator

    • Overheating – When you see the “hot” readout on your temperature panel, head for safe parking and turn off the air conditioner and the engine right away. Put the vehicle on neutral. Slowly rev up the engine. This will decrease the heat and discharge coolant. When steam wafts from your hood, this is a sign that your vehicle is overheating. This is a serious problem which can cause fire if not addressed appropriately. Do not open the hood immediately. Wait for the temperature to go down. Wait for the radiator cap to cool down before you open it. When you force a radiator cap open even when it is still hot, you will release heat and pressure from the radiator. This may result in serious injury and burns.
    • Rust and discoloration – When the radiator or the connecting hose leaks, the fluid can dry out as a result of the engine heat. The dried-out fluid can cause rusting and discoloration.
    • Coolant leakage – When you notice pink, yellow, or green liquid underneath your vehicle, you know that the coolant is leaking.

When you see these radiator problems, head off to Advanced Auto Transmission immediately so a technician can check your radiator.
